Portland, Oregon is famous for its Dahlias. Sauvie Island, just north of Portland, is a riot of color in the late summer. I received many requests to paint a Dahlia before I found the right subject. As I progressed on this painting I was struck by how star-like the Dahlia looked with the bright center and the petals shooting in every direction. There are stars in everyone’s life - my wife, Sarah, is my star. She is the person that makes it possible for people to see my artwork. Sarah fills out all of the festival applications, loads up the cargo van, drives thousands of miles across the United States, sets up and takes down our festival booth and drives home. She does all this to share the bright happiness of my flower paintings with all of you. So it is only appropriate that I name this painting to honor my wife, “Sarah Superstar”. |
